HOW DOES INCREASE DEVELOPED POWER BY SUPERCHARGING IN IC ENGINES

It is process of increasing the mass of the air -fuel mixture (it means density of air fuel mixture) in Spark ignition engines (petrol engines) or Compression ignition (diesel engine) induced into the engine cylinders. This over all process is usually done with helps of air compressor or blower this process is known as supercharging.

Objectives of Super charging the engines :

  1. To reduce mass of engine per brake power (as required in marine engines)
  2. To maintain power of air crafts engines at high altitudes because where less oxygen is available for combustion
  3. To reduce consumption of lubrication
  4. To reduce space occupying by engine
  5. To increase the power out put of an engine when greater power required
